Gung Hay Fat Choy! January 31, marked the Year of the Horse and the start of Chinese New Year. We celebrated this event by wearing red to bring prosperity, fortune and luck in the oncoming year. Our Keiki gathered in the auditorium to learn about the history of the Chinese Lion Dances and aspects of the Chinese culture. Afterwards, they were treated to a special Lion Dance performance. The Red Lion jumped down to get close to the keiki and danced to the music of drums, gongs, and cymbals. During the performance, we held up red envelopes filled with money to “feed” the lion to thank them for spreading the luck to us. The Red Lion followed the keiki back to each of the classrooms and they got to pet the lion. Special thanks to Hawaii Lion Dance Association for the wonderful performance!
