Teachers bring into their classrooms a variety of teaching strategies based on the work of numerous developmental theorists that encompass the diversity of children's learning needs. The growth of the whole child is always the focus. As an example, when focusing on social/emotional development, teachers will reinforce children's feeling about themselves, the development of responsibility and self-care, and their ability to relate positively and respectfully to others.

Learning trips, theater and community excursions, outdoor and indoor play are essential aspects of the program. Chapel services are held twice a month in the Atherton Memorial Chapel. Together with the Church's Children's Minister, the children are taught Christian values through stories, songs and scripture. The children also regularly meet with a music specialist who will guide the children in song and musical exploration.

Involving Parents

Parents are important partners with the school and critical to their child's success in school. We encourage all parents to join our partnership in supporting their children. Our families have supported us with enrichment events sponsored by the PTA, such as Snow Day, the gift-wrap sale and “DAZZLE”.

Parents are always invited to participate in the daily program either assisting teachers and children on learning trips, helping at lunchtime, or participating in special events at the school such as Lei Day, the Christmas Chapel, or a cooking activity.

The relationship between home and school is strengthened through daily communication with parents and through scheduled conferences with teachers.

Class Schedule

Because each family and child has different needs, sessions of varying length are offered. Before school care is available from 7:00am to 7:30am. The regular school day is from 8:00am to 2:30pm. An after school care program is offered from 2:30pm until 5:30pm.

The school is in session on a traditional 9-month calendar. All legal holidays are observed as well as a two-week vacation at Christmas and a one-week spring break in March.

A 6 (six) week summer session starting mid-June is available for children ages 3 – 6 years.
